Is Amazon Lying About eBooks Outselling Printed Books? (via Me and My Kindle)

Great Read!

Is Amazon Lying About eBooks Outselling Printed Books? It's been bothering me for a while. My friend Patrick said he didn't believe ebooks were outselling printed books. In July, Amazon announced they'd sold 180 Kindle books for every 100 hardcover books, but my friend insisted Amazon must've been including all the free ebooks they give away every day. He was wrong about that. I tracked down Amazon's original press release, where they specifically said they hadn't used free Kindle books in their figu … Read More

Review: The Facebook Effect (via Sarcastic Mister Know It All)

August 27, 2010 8 comments

Review: The Facebook Effect I tend to write about Facebook quite often on this blog. Part of the reason is that you can't avoid mentioning Facebook in one way or another these days given its ubiquity. Another part of the reason is that, honestly, I'm a big fan of Facebook and what it's been able to accomplish. I thought I should disclose the latter before my review of David Kirkpatrick's The Facebook Effect, which was released earlier this year and touted as the "official" … Read More

"If you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it. ~ William Somerset Maugham

Wow, it’s going to get better and better as we move forward. Coaching Train has so much to show you over the next several months but I can’t just give it all to you now. We will get there. Before we get started we have to get this out of the way. I wanted to mention to you that Coaching Train cannot answer questions related to the lessons. We will be happy to help anyone with technical questions, but we just don’t have the time to answer questions related to executing content of the lessons. Here is why- It’s not an issue with the content of the lessons. Coaching Train will always make the information in the lessons straight forward and rookie friendly. The type of questions that I am talking about are, “Hey Coaching Train do you think this font is too big for my newest piece of curriculum?” or “Coaching Train do you think it is a good idea to take questions from the audience during my presentation or after?” I’m talking about specific questions for specific people. Coaching train just can’t answer them due to the volume of members. But because there is a massive demand for non technical questions Coaching Train has decided to create the “Coaching Train Secret Society” for the first 75 members who join. If you are someone who would like us to be “attached to your hip” and want to “look over the shoulder of an expert” as we move through each week’s lesson, then contact us at  http://www.coachingtrain.com/form/use/Contact/form1.html and put Secret Society in the subject line. (Your Society membership includes your own private message board where we will assist with your weekly Action Plans and receive one-on-one personal coaching from one of our Coaching Curriculum Team Specialists) ~Sign up today to roll with the pros by getting your free email subscription or RSS feed today by just clicking on the sidebar up top.

Ice Breakers Lesson 2 – a Sneak Peak from your Coaching Train Weekly Membership

February 4, 2010 Leave a comment

Raise your hand if you have ever felt uncomfortable or should I say nervous before you went on to stage, stuck your head in the huddle, or introduced a colleague in front of a buzzing dinner crowd. Don’t worry know one is looking raise your hand. It’s ok we have all been there and felt that. So it is a must to not just break but shatter the ice by executing crisp, flawless, and modern *ice breakers. Let’s get started.

Ice Breakers are the key to everyone’s comfort level. The coach, the trainer, your audience, THE PEOPLE…. are important!! And so are you. Before you go onto stage you must maintain the swagger of a champion. You need to motivate and electrify your audience because you need to inspire people to become thinkers. You want them to think and learn right? From beginning to middle to end people will respect your ability to facilitate because you have forced them to “think outside the box.”

What do Ice Breakers accomplish and produce? Tremors!!!

Tone Relationships Energy Momentum Obedience Remember Security

Tone

Your number one goal for an entire training or coaching session is laying down an atmosphere of electricity, enthusiasm, and knowledge. In order to accomplish these goals you must set the *tone from the beginning and follow through until the end.

Relationships

It all comes down to building those meaningful relationships in the classroom which will provide you with creditability and the willingness to have most follow. As you grow you will learn where to strategically place your audience. For example: a *soldier at each table.

Energy

Energy is one of the 3 E’s that we will get to in future lessons. But for now this one speaks for itself. Your energy starts with having a positive mental attitude, championship swagger, and the awareness to move with purpose. If you are physically ill, thin on knowledge of curriculum, or just don’t feel like a hero that particular day, YOU must at all times push through those shortcomings like a bulldozer.

Momentum

The best way to fire you up on momentum is to break out a “Game Changer”. You are down by 6 with 30 seconds left until halftime and the ball is in your red zone with the other team digging into score. There QB drops back and you pick off his pass and return it for 6 going into the locker room with a the lead as long as you don’t blow the kick. The home crowd goes nuts and you lead the halftime speech back in the locker room. You have just swung the momentum in your favor. The point is the other team was in the red zone; you can’t miss the extra point or bobble the ball and or drop it. You now own the beginning of the 3rd quarter and maybe all of the second half because the wave of energy you just created has blown the doors of the house. You must at all times have control of your environment. If you lose control you must recreate it.

Obedience /Remember

Bottom line your audience must be loyal. Icebreakers will help with the road to respect and loyalty. Whether you are that guy or gal that gets them to laugh (laughter is the key to anyone’s heart) or you are such a great story teller that your audience relates to walking in your shoes you must get them to follow, recall, and relate to you.

Security

Depending on your experience and comfort level, security can be the most important aspect to you and to your audience. It is more comforting to all who attend training or a sweaty coaching huddle to be secure. The stories that you have shared will generate a bond between the audience and the speaker, leader, trainer, coach, manager, engineer.
